About the Role

Objective/Purpose: The Power Converter HW Engineer reports to the VGC Power Converter Team Leader and directly contributes to converter design, development, assembly, testing, versioning, documentation, and library component creation of key prototypes supporting business growth in the power conversion field. The Power Converter HW Engineer expected tasks include the research and assessment of state-of-the-art power converter parts (hardware), semiconductors market surveillance, semiconductor driver’s development, converter filter assembly, integration of HW protections, signal acquisition and conditioning, power converter packaging, and thermal management. The Power Converter HW Engineer provides technical expertise working closely with the Power Converter SW and Embedded Engineer teams, being also responsible to project delivery and innovation roadmap infeed as required and in support of the VG CoLAB Active Systems Leader.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Converter HW parts design, development, and testing.

  • Create functional and system design specs.

  • System modelling: use simulation tools to create and pre-test power electronics models.

  • PCB design: design PCBs for the development of power electronics parts.

  • CAD design: converter 3D CAD design for converter assembly, including power bus bars and connections, rack structures and integration on electrical cabinets.

  • Power converter testing: define testing procedures, hardware debugging, and testing reports.

  • Maintain VG CoLAB Wiki.

  • Support technical development, innovate, and identify IP opportunities.

  • Propose improvements and participate in events.

  • Acting in the best interests of the business.

  • Performing such other tasks as are consistent with the position and in the support of the head of your team.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification: M.Sc. in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.


Experience:Industrial and/or academic experience developing and delivering power converter prototypes with exposure to innovation.


Technical Skills:

  • Development of power conversion topologies based on power modules and discrete semiconductors (required).

  • Development and integration of semiconductor drivers (required).

  • Design and interpretation of 3D CADs – AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc (required).

  • Development of product datasheets and testing sheets to feed the V&V team (desired).

  • Thermal analysis and heatsink integration (desired).

Software Skills:

  • Modelling tools: MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys Twin Build, Ansys Maxwell, LTSpice, or similar.

  • PCB design software: KiCAD or similar alternatives.

  • Power module 3D design software: SolidWorks or similar alternatives.

  • Programming: Experience in SW programming (e.g., Excel macros, GSheet macros, Python) for the development of supportive tools to accelerate HW development.

  • Version control: Experience in SW release management (Git or similar).
