About the Role

Objective/Purpose: The BMS SoX Specialist will contribute directly to the development and evaluation of battery energy storage systems for different electrochemistry (Na-ion, Li-ion, VRFB, etc.). The BMS SoX Specialist's expected tasks include permanent surveillance of the BMS state of the art, the identification of innovation opportunities and trends, the development of state estimators and/or AI models for the estimation of charge and health of different battery electrochemistries, the design of testing protocols to guide the V&V team, guide junior engineers on the field, strongly contribute to the VG CoLAB Wiki, and properly report innovation developments to the team leader. It is mandatory that the candidate truly believes in the VG CoLAB mission and act in the best interests of the company at all time.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of state estimators and/or AI models, including state of charge and state of health, for different battery electrochemistries.

  • Continuous BMS-related technology surveillance identifying innovation opportunities and trends.

  • Supervise junior engineers joining the Battery Pack team.

  • Strongly contribute to the VG CoLAB Wiki.

  • Work closely with the V&V team in the development of testing protocols.

  • Report to the team leader.

  • Always acting in the best interests of the company.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification: MSc or PhD in electrochemistry, electronics, computer science, physics, or similar areas.


Experience: Industrial and/or academic experience in the development and evaluation of battery managing systems (BMS), specifically in the development of state estimators such as state of charge and/or state of health, and/or in the development of AI battery models/ digital twins.


Technical Skills:

  • Previous experience developing state estimators (at least SoC and SoH) algorithms (required).

  • Battery modelling through equivalent electric circuits (required).

  • Battery charge/discharge protocols (required).

  • Data fitting (required).

  • Communication protocols and integration (desired).

  • Software languages and programming (desired).

Software Skills:

  • Simulation tools: MATLAB/Simulink or similar.

  • Programming: Python, C++, or similar.

  • Experience in worksheets (Excel, GSheet, or similar) for bill of materials and inventory orders.

  • Experience in MS Office (Word and PowerPoint) for filling reports and preparing presentations.
